I talk a lot about resumes because they can literally make or break your career trajectory. They’ve served as first impressions to potential employers or clients since the 15th century (hint, hint), showcasing people’s skills, experiences, and qualifications at a glance.

Even historical figures had to hunker down and create resumes! Resumes can seem daunting, but breaking down the process into smaller, manageable pieces makes it more approachable. Here’s a quick blueprint to get you started.

3 Quick Changes to Make on Your Resume:

1️⃣ Replace the Traditional Summary Section:

  • Replace the traditional summary section with 1-3 “win” bullet points at the top of your resume.

  • Purpose of this section: Highlight where you've been, what you've accomplished, and what you can offer your next employer.

2️⃣ Upgrade Your Work Experience Section:

List your three most relevant job experiences. Each entry should include:

  • A brief summary of the job.

  • 2 bullet points outlining key responsibilities or achievements.

3️⃣ Add a Professional Accomplishments Section:

  • Include 2-3 accomplishments or professional activities that directly relate to your desired job.
