The job search is the best time to spot potential red flags, especially when it comes to identifying roles that might involve B.S. work. Understanding the types of B.S. jobs, as categorized by David Graeber in his popular book, Bullsh*t Jobs, can help you avoid positions that drain your energy without meaningful impact.


Here are the top 3 giveaways that a role might be “BS”:

1️⃣ Vague Descriptions: Look out for job descriptions filled with buzzwords but no clear responsibilities. Beware of terms like "liaising" or "supporting" without specific goals.

2️⃣ Admin Overload: If the job is heavy on administrative tasks with no clear connection to larger goals, it might just be fluff work.

3️⃣ Ambiguous Impact: Be cautious of roles that talk up their importance but don’t explain how your work will make a real difference.
