Every open role exists to solve a specific kind of pain, but most job seekers just scan for the title or salary before deciding if itâs a fit.
Hereâs the truth: the most aligned careers rarely come from chasing job titles or paychecks. Theyâre a journey, and the professionals who are truly thriving have figured out a few things most people overlook:
They understand why the role exists before accepting a job offer.
They know that accepting a job offer is a business deal. Theyâre providing a service (their skills) to a business (their employer).
Before you object and tell me about the job market, trust me, I get it. Job descriptions are vague, and manager requests rarely tell the full story. But the core reasons companies hire new employees (and keep the ones they have) havenât changed.
I put together a simple framework to help you read between the lines, in job postings and conversations, so you can uncover what kind of hire a company actually needs, and what the work will really look like once youâre in the seat.

If youâre a Builder, youâre hired to scale and grow whatâs already working. These roles focus on accelerating momentum, optimizing systems, and expanding reach. Builders thrive in environments where progress is measurable, resources are available, and the goal is to move fast without breaking whatâs already functioning.
